Crystal Reports 2008 can be used for report design, application development and Web report delivery. This page is a summary of key licensing items in the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).
Download the complete End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).
Regardless of which Crystal Reports edition is purchased, Crystal Reports is licensed on a named-user basis for report design.
Crystal Reports 2008 includes a component for .Net developers called Crystal Reports 2008 for Visual Studio. This includes a runtime engine for embedding into either thick client applications or web applications. A thick client application is defined as an application where the report engine executes on the end users desktop.
Thick client .Net applications that include the .Net runtime engine can be freely redistributed internally and externally to third parties.
Web applications that include .Net runtime engine can be freely redistributed internally only. If you wish to redistribute a web application to an external third-party, you will have to acquire a copy of Crystal Reports 2008 for each company the application is distributed to.
If you acquired an upgrade license to Crystal Reports 2008, then you can continue to use your older version simultaneously with the new version. Service packs and patches do not grant additional licenses.
If you acquired your copy of Crystal Reports 2008 bundled with a third party application (OEM application), then you have what is known as a restricted license, and you can only use Crystal Reports 2008 with that bundled application.
This is a non-exhaustive summary of the restrictions of use described in the EULA. Most of these restrictions also apply to redistributed applications. Download the EULA for more details.
